16 DAYS

Dawn had not broken yet when a deep guttural roar resounded over the Rhodope mountain ridge. The echo answered, somewhere beneath, joining another roar coming from a much nearer place. It was obvious my local PH Zoro knew his job perfectly well. We were at the right spot.

THE CARPATHIANS

The hunters in the group had ceased talking to each other. Heavy breathing and the sweat on their faces were betraying in an unambiguous way that effort and exhaustion were already their companions. The steep Carpathian slopes were strewn with slippery autumn leaves which were adding more hardship to their moving forward.

THE LAKATNIK MONSTER

The warm Saturday was making one feel carefree. The inhabitants of the tiny village Lakatnik, perched on the steepest section of the Iskar canyon, were waking up hopeful to spend yet another lazy day. It was just the members of the local hunting party, known in the region for their enthusiasm, which had already set out on a journey up the steep paths of the vertical slopes. Their good organization had found expression in the planned party too, which was supposed to take place after the ambush an

THE CALL OF THE WILD

Hunting across beautiful Bulgaria is an unforgettable experience no matter whether you are supplied with a gun or a camera.

Cautiously the hunter was climbing slowly up the cliff, heading for its edge .The professional guide had led him up the steep path trampled by wild goats going down to the drinking pool .Before reaching the ridge, the guide gave way to the hunter, in case the herd would appear. They’d been ascending the final few meters stopping to catch their breath and to take a look a

At the dawn of my hunting career I had the chance of gunning down a couple of wild hogs in some very dangerous situations. But that was not the result of the right tactics only. It was rather the luck of the hunter which had played a role.

An Easter Walk up the Vitosha Mount

Pressed for time over the week, me and my friend Svetlyo, nicknamed Thomson, made up our minds to go for a walk in the open on Sunday. The few hours we were intending to spend together, would be devoted todisputes and theoretical speculation over our favourite topic, ballistics. To make our pleasant walk still more enjoyable, we chose the afternoon on Palm Sunday and the less popular among visitors parts of the Mount Vitosha. Half an hour from the centre of Sofia, we left our cars and set out cl
