Africa and throughout the world

With some seven safaris in my hunting experience I am still certain that Africa will not cease to attract me, at least in the near future. No matter where I am hunting my thoughts will always carry me back to the “black” continent because my child’s dream to roam the savannas and to encounter exotic animals is never going to be completely satisfied.

The next day was a very intensive hunting one. Almost everyone contributed to it. We heard there was sort of “Oryx-antelope” promotion on the farm which, in other words, meant that the number of animals was expected to be reduced. The Oryx-antelope is quite aggressive and very territorial and usually invades the domain of other animals.

I’d been finishing my breakfast, sitting at the big table for ten, when the professional hunter by the name of Marcus rushed into the dining room gasping for breath, saying:
“We’ve got no more than two minutes to pack. The trackers are after a fresh leopard track.”
Without asking about any further details, which I was going to learn in the Jeep anyway, I grabbed my rucksack and the short caliber 9.3x62 rifle and went to call the hunter who had a strong desire to have that hard to obtain trophy

THE FIRST DAY

At the Dar es Salaam airport our small Cessna propeller aircraft had been just about to take off headed for the Selous Game Reserve. We had to go on board from the very runway cut through the savanna bush. The place could hardly be called an airport in spite of the fact it served as such once or twice a week. Night and the high African grass were concealing our bending silhouettes. The quick walking pace was not giving us away thanks to the sandy sois muffling our steps. We’d been following one and the same itinerary for the second time around. Earlier that day, before sunset, the scout from the hunting camp had broken the news we’d been waiting for in the course of five days. Every evening upon sunset, the big male hippopotamus would sneak out of his den among the impenetrable reeds.
